OAKLAND -- Greg Hodge, the school board member who planned to run for City Council, fell one signature shy of qualifying for the June 3 ballot, the city clerk's office said Tuesday. Hodge, who entertained a run for mayor in 2006 and talked up a City Council bid months before the March 7 filing deadline, collected 74 signatures, only 49 of which were valid, the clerk's office said. Candidates need 50 valid signatures to land a spot on the ballot. Signatures must come from registered voters living within the district in which a candidate is running. Hodge was holding out hope he may still be able to run. Should he choose, he has until Friday to file to get the decision reversed in court.
